At CheapCarRental.co.uk, we try to assist our client in every way
possible. That is why we have compiled these car rental tips
regarding what you should do if you were ever to be in an accident
during your travels:
- First off, you should treat an accident in a rental car in
the same way that you would in your own vehicle.
- The most important thing to do after an accident is to check
for any injuries. Start with yourself and then check the rest of
the passengers in your vehicle. If you are alright, you should
then check on the passengers in the other vehicle. If there are
any injuries, or you suspect that somebody may be hurt, contact
an ambulance or the paramedics immediately for further
assistance.
- You should then take a moment to collect your thoughts and
calm down. An accident can be a traumatic experience and you
could find it difficult to handle the situation properly if you
try and do everything straight away without taking a chance to
think things over.
- Once you got over the initial shock, you should start taking
notes on the accident. Avoid discussing who was at fault, as you
may start apologising from the shock when in fact it was the
other driver at fault.
- If you have a camera, or your mobile phone is equipped with a
camera, be sure to take pictures of both vehicles involved. Take
a few from different angles to show exactly how and where the
accident took place.
- Take down the details of the other driver including: full
name, contact details, insurance details and their driver's
licence number. If there were any witnesses to the accident, try
and get their names and contact details as well.
- You should then contact the car rental agency to find out
about any other details that may be required or for towing
instructions.
- If the police have been called to the scene, try and get a
copy of their report.
- Make sure that you clear all of your valuables out of the
vehicle before it is towed away. If you need to go to the
hospital to be checked for injury, ask one of your passengers to
take your goods with them, or request to contact someone to fetch
the goods for you.
It is recommended that you use these car rental tips in an
emergency, but be sure to check for any other important car rental
information when hiring a car.
